• From the 1960s through the 1990s a continuous stream of immigrants replenished the Indian population of New York City, and, as new arrivals increasingly chose Queens over other boroughs, the city’s residential concentration of Indians shifted from Manhattan to Queens. These developments produced both the concentrations and dispersal of the Queens Indian community described in this chapter. By the 1990s, besides having the largest urban concentration of Indians in the United States, Queens also housed the widest range of Indian immigrant cultural activities and economic diversity.
