The results of a survey carried out among 816 teachers and in 475 schools situated in different parts of Poland are presented in this article. Respondents expressed their attitudes towards opinions on school students of today. Those opinions have been taken from articles on educational subjects published in the 1990s but the examined persons were not informed about it. The content of presented theses reflects increasing complexity of the world in which the adolescents are educated. It shows that many students have problems with the still existing traditional character of the school itself, difficulties in achieving their rights, they see obstacles for the implementation of a new pedagogy aiming at a democratic and humanistic approach. Researches have proved that headmasters and teachers agree with critical opinions towards school. They also notice unfavourable results and shortcomings of the present school for the development and education of students. Unfortunately this does not always lead to a change in the concept of their own educational activity. The respondents still too often continue searching methods to overcome disadvantageous situations by using non-effective ways and means, which have been long existing in traditional pedagogy.
