• Jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis (Link) Schneider) is an oil yielding and potential biodiesel desert shrub (family Simmondsiaceae), also known as desert gold. More than 300 products containing jojoba are already in the market. The main constituent of jojoba is its oil called as “jojoba oil” which is used in cosmetic and fuel industry. International demand for jojoba products is increasing continuously. Besides being known for its higher lubricating properties, jojoba plant has also been used for soil and landscape conservation. Present communication focuses upon the current information on botanical description, biochemical, molecular and biotechnological advancements made in the research on Jojoba.
