- Although the Theaetetus is cast in the form of a Socratic elenchus, it also incorporates Plato’s assessment of the elenchus. His message seems to be that, although the elenctic method can refute philosophical theses, it cannot produce philosophically interesting theses—it cannot provide philosophical enlightenment.
