The first is the completion of the Java platform for Linux, which provides embedded application developers access to the entire Java platform for use on the Linux operating system. In the second, Sun announced availability of the Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME) for VxWorks, Wind River System's popular real-time operating system. Together, these announcements give application and services developers additional options for creating Java technology based applications that run on embedded Linux and VxWorks systems, as well as a host of other operating systems. Today's announcement signals that the entire Java platform is now available for the Linux operating system. The Java platform includes the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE); the Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE) and the Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME). Java technology applications can now scale from embedded mobile devices to desktop systems to the largest Linux-based server systems.
