Critiques the new social history & its links to Thomas S. Kuhn's (1962) history of science, focusing on social historians' advancement of egalitarian social values along with their undermining of historical methodology through political orthodoxy. It is argued that contemporary society exists in an ahistorical context, significantly enhanced by social historians' emphasis on positivism & presentism. The elements of race, gender, & class have come to dominate a politically motivated methodology in the study of social & technological history. Objections are made to the new social history's concept of a social force & its linear construction of time, place, & culture. The embrace of evolutionary thought & developmental theory by the Iowa Child Welfare Research Station is offered in contrast. 6 References. D. Bajo
