Dr. Terry Peach has hit upon the splendid idea of trying to settle the question of Ricardo's position on the secular real-wage path by referring to Ricardo's reactions to various statements by contemporaries. He concludes that the evidence points away from the new view. His attempt to arrive at a balanced evaluation is to be warmly welcomed, but his conclusion is unconvincing, considering the explicit endorsement by Ricardo in his Notes on Malthus's Principles of Political Economy, of Malthus's version of the new view - the clearest formulation in the literature.
