A discussion of the usage of floodlighted vs floodlit & shifts of voice, eg, hurt 'cause pain to' vs hurt 'be injured'. It is suggested that floodlighted is a straightforward denominal from light, lighted 'illuminate', whereas floodlit is either an adjectival compound or a compound verb based on light, lit 'ignite'. As for hurt, a possible derivation is put forth from a denominal by way of stages including intransitive, causative, & transitive. 4 References. L. Lagerquist
