To some extent, this non-existent data—or data that was never accounted for—may have partially been responsible for the replication crisis that is often stated to be occurring in science (Teixeira da Silva 2016a). In those cases, not only were authors responsible for showing that ‘‘data not shown’’ data, but it was also incumbent upon peer reviewers and editors who were overseeing the revision of the quality of that manuscript, to ensure that authors presented such data during the peer review process.
