A simple hollow-structured "artificial catalyst" in situ formed from CdTe QDs and CoCl sub(2).6H sub(2)O in aqueous ascorbic acid solution has shown exceptional activity and stability for photocatalytic H sub(2) evolution (25 mu mol h super(-1) mg super(-1), 219 100 mol H sub(2) per mol QDs or 59 600 mol H sub(2) per mol Co turnovers, respectively) under visible light irradiation for 70 h.
