In both countries the number of women benefiting from these services, in particular from religious instruction, has clearly reached that of male Muslims.2 In addition, as on a global level, in European contexts the spread of media technologies has facilitated knowledge acquisition among lay Muslims, male and female alike.3 One could conclude from there that a "democratization" of religious authority was about to emerge, as the pluralization of knowledge diffusion enables the believer to engage individually with the inherited religious tradition and to thereby increase her own interpretative authority.
