We present the first measurements of two-photon absorption in an external electric field. Through the field dependent mixing of two-photon and one-photon allowed states, the two-photon allowed state has to be treated as a polariton. This concept is applied to exciton transitions in AgI and yields quantitative agreement with experimental data.
