The exigency in identification of suitable plant species with easy establishment and survival in drought prone areas, degraded land and salt affected regions to increase C sequestration has led the authors to explore. Desert date ( Balanites aegyptiaca ) belongs to family Balanitaceae, with very good C sequestration potential. It can withstand drought prone conditions and high salt content present in soil. The present short communication explains various aspects of the plant which will be beneficial in increasing soil C stock.
