• This report takes stock of key changes in the world today and their implications for education; reiterates the vision for education in the new millennium; takes stock of progress so far and the gaps that remain; describes the rich group of partners in the educational endeavor; and looks at how the bank ' s role has evolved. All of this sets the context for the strategy that presently guides activities and sets priorities in the education sector. The report describes the Bank ' s global priorities and programs that help countries progress toward the international education goals as well as improve the quality of teaching and learning. The final chapter describes the processes and operating principles that will help Bank staff contribute more effectively to a better educational outcome in each client country and to monitor success in implementing this strategy.
