Highlights • We investigate the DSM-5 structure of PTSD in a nationally representative sample in Sri Lanka. • Both 3- and 4-factorial models of PTSD produced a reasonable fit in this population. • Multigroup CFA analysis supports a four-factor PTSD model across gender and ethnic groups. • The modified HTQ performs well in identifying ethnic groups in need of interventions. • Further analysis is needed to establish the invariance of the modified HTQ across cultures.
