• Francois de Clarier translated the Italian original of Tomaso Garzoni's Hospidale de' pazzi incurabili ([The Hospital of Incurable Fools] 1586) which was published in Paris by Francois Julliot in 1620 under the title Hospital des fols incurables. Following a brief presentation of biographic facts about the author & translator & a general outline of the book's contents, the vocabulary of the French version is examined in more detail, discussing words (1) impeding the text's comprehension but left without explanation in Adelin Charles Fiorato's (2001) critical edition; (2) glossed incorrectly in the same edition; (3) with erotic denotata; (4) representing specialized lexicon of biology, medicine, & pharmacy; (5) expanding the meanings of lemmas attested in Walther von Wartburg's Franzosisches etymologisches Worterbuch.
