• The internal semantic structure of derived verbs functioning in technical Spanish is analyzed using material from Polytechnisches Worterbuch Spanisch-Deutsch ([Polytechnic Spanish-German Dictionary], Berlin, 1976), & the important role of context in the meaning of complex Spanish verbs is attested. Verbal forms describing human activities are divided into action types: ornatives, privatives, resultatives, instrumentals, locatives, & denominators. The correlation between these action types & the morphological models underlying the derivation of the verbs is noted, & the polyfunctionality of some derived verbs expressing different action types is exemplified.
