Analysis of relevant texts & interviews with former students inform a discussion of the pedagogical department of the U of Frankfurt am Main, Germany. A tradition of sociological pedagogy was begun around 1916 by Julius Ziehen & others. It was continued by Paul Tillich, Carl Mennicke, & Hans Weil, who worked to develop a systematic social pedgagogy. The political implications of their work & their political involvements led to their dismissals 1929-1933 & subsequent emigration from Nazi power. Beginning in 1933, a nationalist pedagogy & educational science dominated the department under Ernst Krieck & Heinrich Weinstock. 45 References. Adapted from the source document.
