• Reviews the exhibition "The first Golden Age : painting in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and the Mücsarnok," which was on view at the Mücsarnok in Budapest through 12 March 2017. The show covered the second half of the 19th century, coinciding with the reign of Franz Joseph, deemed by some a Golden Age, when central Europe was undergoing rapid economic and cultural modernization. Whether this period also witnessed an artistic renaissance in the region is debatable. [Revised Publication Abstract]
