Discusses the disturbing implications of current publications policies subscribed to by editors of psychological journals in America. In the dominant trend toward the publication of more and briefer papers, an increased number of persons is heard from, but the substantive and procedural aspects of individual contributions can no longer be reviewed by the conscientious reader. Moreover, the accent on brevity seems likely to discourage reference to the related work of other persons. The author also discusses the problems faced by psychologists and other scientists who have found themselves suddenly confronted with the possibility of obtaining large sums of money with which to accomplish research.
