Statutes discussed in this Article may contain overlapping civil, criminal, and administrative penalty provisions. This article focuses on conduct deemed criminal by Congress and prosecutable by the DOJ. It will thus focus on campaign finance and election fraud offenses. In recent years, campaign finance law has gained renewed attention due to several landmark judicial decisions. Section II discusses these opinions and explores campaign finance crimes in general. Election fraud involves "substantive irregularities," including bribery, intimidation, or forgery, which can potentially "taint the election itself." Section III examines election fraud offenses.
