Arguing that no other study of the terms to date adequately considers their use in the OT when interpreting Proverbs 1-9 interpreters instead privilege extrabiblical evidence (e.g., "foreign" women in ancient Near Eastern wisdom) - T. proposes that the "foreign" woman of Proverbs 1-9 is best understood as an expression of the biblical motif of "foreign" women who lead the community to apostasy. Because T. assumes an early postexilic date for Proverbs 1-9, and her lexical analysis reveals a concentration of references to "foreign" women in Ezra-Nehemiah and 1 Kings 1 1 (to which Nehemiah refers), she begins her investigation of the motif in the early postexilic period.
