Beschreibungen/Notizen
  • Fried focuses on the culture of "The Menorah Journal's" last decade during which editor Henry Hurwitz enlarged the idea of Judaism and its heritage in and for America. Its early issues explored the historical origins and modern values of Judaisms. Throughout the Journal's history, Hurwitz wrote about the singularity of American Judaism, a faith developing its future apart from world Jewry, a nationalist Zionism and the nostalgic folkist nature of Yiddish culture. Furthermore, the journal's career ended with a valedictory issue in 1962 edited by Leo Schwarz and composed of essays accepted by Hurwitz for publication.
