The article discusses the sources of some passages in the Wars of Procopius of Caesarea and the way Procopius combines his sources. It is argued that Procopius used the historical work of Priscus of Panion for the story about the emigration of the Cimmerians (i.e. the Huns) (Procop. Bell, 8.5.1-14), but that for the history of the migration of the Vandals, the Visigoths, the Ostrogoths, and the Gepids (Procop. Bell. 3.2-3), he drew on other sources. A comparative analysis of Procop. Bell 3.2-02, Theoph AM 5931, Theop. AM 5977, Euagr. HE 3.27 and Nic.Call. HE 16.23 shows that Procopius probably drew his information of the migrations of these peoples as well as the idea of the 'Gothic nations' from the chronicle of Eustathius of Epiphaneia. While using more sources for the early Vandal history, Procopius' main concern was to harmonize various accounts, not to evaluate the credibility and quality of them.
