Many genre purists cringed at Zack Snyder's decision to use fast zombies who could run after their prey even as other critics enjoyed the thrilling ride of an updated homage to George Romero's classic 1978 study of Western materialism.7 Ultimately, the film's supporters won out over its detractors, as the movie has gained a solid foothold within the zombie theory lexicon, receiving positive treatment within the latest zombie criticisms.8 Although this remake broke from classic zombie tropes in many ways and may be read as a criticism of that tradition, it still remains true to certain destructive features of typical zombie horror.
