Pipers work on Goethe and the labs subsequent work on mapping social networks in detective ction and tracing echoes of St. Augustines language of conversion in modern autobiography are part of a growing eld of literary research that analyses large corpora of books in order to highlight large-scale literary phenomena. Piper is a reader who has thought deeply about his relationship with books and the J.
