  • The results of a factor analysis of the relations between 25 fam problems. Data were from a survey of 448 normal faro's from all parts of the US obtained as part of a study made by the United Presbyterian Church. R's reported on the presence or absence of the 25 problems in their fam. The analysis shows the presence of 15 factors. The 5 major factors consist of problems related to: childrearing; husband-wife relations; style of life (SES); community activity; & religion. The finding that these are separate factors with no common variance, indicates that fam problems are specific to roles & areas of activity. The finding contradicts the assumption that econ problems of fam's are related to interpersonal ones & also the clinical assumption that interpersonal problems in the marital & parental roles are closely related.
