• José Bergamín, figura importante de la llamada Generación de la República y del exilio español de 1939, vio interrumpida su trayectoria como dramaturgo tras la Guerra Civil. Sus propuestas vanguardistas, su vinculación con el bando republicano y su posterior exilio explican el olvido en el que ha caído su teatro, al igual que ocurre con el de otros escritores españoles exiliados. Pero, en su caso, sus diferentes países de acogida –México, Uruguay y Francia–, su lealtad a las ideas republicanas, que siguió defendiendo hasta su muerte, así como la poca atención que se ha prestado a su faceta dramática explican que él mismo aceptara con resignación que haya sido ninguneada y olvidada su obra teatral. Encontrar tres textos dramáticos inéditos de Bergamín no resulta tarea difícil, si la comparamos con conseguir que no caigan, pese a su descubrimiento, en otro olvido: el de mantenerlos aún como inéditos y evitar que estén al alcance, si no de los espectadores, al menos de sus lectores. José Bergamín was an important figure of the commonly named Generation of the Republic and of the Spanish Exile of 1939. His dramatic career was interrupted by the Spanish Civil War. His avant-garde aesthetics, his support of the Republican side during the war, and his postwar exile can help to explain the relative oblivion into which his theatrical work has fallen, a feature shared with other exiled Spanish writers. However, in Bergamín's case, his different host countries—Mexico, Uruguay, and France—, his loyalty to Republican ideas, which he defended until his death, and the lack of interest in his dramatic work help to account for the fact that he himself reluctantly accepted that his plays had been ignored and forgotten. While uncovering three unpublished dramas written by Bergamín may not be a difficult task, a more challenging undertaking than finding them resides in preventing another kind of oblivion: one in which these texts by Bergamín remain unpublished and unavailable, if not for an audience, at least for possible readers.
