• Post-liberal theology is a child of modernity and post-modernity inasmuch as it looks at human rationality with a general hermeneutic of suspicion. As a consequence, such a theology can answer questions about the reason for and the reasonableness of faith only with statements borrowed from fideism. However, if faith wants to bridge the gap between a merely negative philosophy and a positive theology, it needs to argue from universally understandable standards of reason with the concept of revelation. Precisely here is the place for the classic Fundamental-theologie. This study shows what a foundational theology can and must learn from post-liberal theories, but also in which way it must be different.
