Currently, most interest in terms of practical applications is attracted
by pulsed metal vapour lasers (PMVL) constructed on the circuit with
stagnant excitation of longitudinal or transverse electrical discharges. In
both cases, the problem of constructing PMVL with the required
radiation characteristics must be solved on the basis of minimizing the
economic costs associated mainly with the need for careful preliminary
study of the working processes in these lasers. Discharge plasma in
metal vapours is characterized by significant non-stationarity of many
physical parameters, a detailed analysis of which in a broad range
of experimental conditions is often extremely difficult. Taking into
account that the metal vapour lasers for some metals have not as yet
been sufficiently investigated, and the construction of their existing
models involve various costs, it can be considered most appropriate
to study these lasers by numerical simulation of processes in their
active medium or, in other words, by numerical experiments aimed at
optimizing and predicting the characteristics of lasers.
