  • This contribution will attempt to defend the thesis that the 'Arbeitsgemeinschaft Soziakwissenschaftlicher Institute e.V.' (ASI) has played a major role in the institutionalization and professionalization of sociology in West Germany after the Second World War. The paper will show that, to date, the significance of the ASI has been grossly underrated in historical assessments of the development of German sociology.
