• Dedicated to Allan Peterson on the Occasion of His 60th Birthday. We are concerned with solutions of the fourth-order nonlinear difference equation Δ 2 (p n Δ 2 y n ) − Δ(q n Δy n + 1 ) = f(n, y n + 2 ), where p n > 0, q n ≥ 0. We define F + and F − solutions for a certain functional operator F, prove the existence of these solutions, and verify asymptotic properties of these solutions under the assumption that f satisfies yf(n, y) < 0.
