In an interview, rock critic par excellence Paul Trynka discusses his book the writing of David Bowie: Starman, what he learned about the Thin White Duke, and some recommendations for libraries wanting to go the full Bowie. Trynka says it was much harder to write the Bowie story than his Iggy Pop book, Open Up and Bleed. It was less linear, some parts of the ground were well trodden, there was much more of it to cover, and I didn't have Bowie's blessing the way Iggy's did. Hence, it needed over 200 interviews and three years of work. But that it was more of a challenge made it even more satisfying.
