Given the growth of the third sector, its economic and social role facing the ills of modern society, knowing its origins and factors that influence its development seems to be necessary. Thus, this article aims to identify the factors that stimulate the emergence of non-profit organizations (OSFLs) of João Pessoa-PB based in theory of public goods, theory of social entrepreneurs and theory of interdependence. For this, a exploratory and descriptive survey, qualitative analysis, using techniques of data collecting the documentary, bibliographical research and interstructured interviews was carried. Main results point out that theory of public goods and social entrepreneurs may be able to explain the emergence of the OSFL surveyed.
