In his recent book Gott denken, Holm Tetens argues for a theist claim. Some of his arguments for this claim are based on his criticism of a particular account of science that Tetens attributes to atheists. This account of science consists in the normative principle of „methodological atheism“ and two additional normative principles. In this paper, I will present three objections to Tetens' criticism. My main objection is that – contrary to Tetens' view – atheists do not have to accept methodological atheism (nor do many atheists accept this principle as a matter of fact). Instead, I will argue that the standard arguments by atheists are best understood in terms of (what I call) Laplacean atheism.
