• At present, the genesis of phosphorites remains debatable. Some researchers follow the hypothesis of biogenic phosphogenesis in the ocean, according to which organic matter accumulated in bottom sediments serves as a source of phosphorus. This is particularly true of the shelf zone, which is characterized by maximal concentrations of phosphorus in sediments and where recent phosphorites were discovered in the past century. It is clear that the formation mechanism of recent phosphorites can be understood only by dening their primary structure and compositions of micro- and nanoparticles therein using advanced methods. This communication is dedicated to data obtained by precisely such studies.
