  • Halperin talks about Aristotle's argument that sex is not the end-purpose of erotic desire which is not a psychological claim. It does not refer--it does not need to refer--to the inner truth of the individual, to the shape of the lover's yearnings, to deep psychic structures or faculties, to the complex feelings that passionate desire for one person produces in another, or to the shifting dynamics in sexual relationships between people.
