  • eng: The increasing competition in innovation creates new challenges for companies: they are compelled to efficiently place new products on markets and - in doing so - to evade competition by generating radical innovations. Cross-Industry-Innovations hold the promise to bust this dilemma. The use of knowledge from foreign industries to solve own problems through analogies increases efficiency and allows innovations of radical degree. Different application contexts of possible solutions and specific terminologies complicate the search for analogical solutions and their transfer to the own problem. Thus, the goal of this work is a systematic approach for planning cross-industry-innovations in the context of strategic product planning. For a selected problem, a search strategy prepares the search for analogies. It yields an abstract description of the problem and auspicious branches in which to search for a solution. In the following, a media based search is employed to take advantage of the vast amount of information available online. In doing so, a cyclical search process supports approaching different application terminologies of different branches. The results are solution ideas for the selected problem. For a promising solution idea, adaptation challenges are derived, and measures are defined. Their distinct placement in the innovation and product development process describes the result of the systematic approach: the planned adaptation.
