In allen Bereichen bzw.
  • eng: Food companies contribute significantly to the economic strength in Germany. This is the reason why innovation power and capability of this sector is playing an important role. Action is required as about two-thirds of all innovation projects in the food sector fail. This dissertation aims to investigate the critical success factors for innovation projects in the food industry by qualitative methodology. Therefore different cross-divisional protagonists of innovation projects in the food sector were interviewed about successful and unsuccessful innovation projects. This study uses the approach of a system theoretical view which is based on the personal system theory in the tradition of Bateson and further developed by König und Volmer. In their approach, individuals are explicitly considered as part of social systems, such as innovation projects in the food sector represent. This study has shown that the significant critical success factors are due to the social system "innovation project". The key success factors are particularly the subjective interpretations of the project participants, the social rules and the rule loops of the innovation project as a social system. In all areas or sub-areas of the social system innovation project, these success factors significantly contribute to its success, directly or indirectly as well as explicitly or implicitly. The results of this study are discussed within the context of system theoretical considerations On this basis, new approaches for the successful implementation of innovation projects in the food sector are developed.
