Harmonizing Thickness and Permeability in Bone Tissue Engineering: A Novel Silk Fibroin Membrane Inspired by Spider Silk Dynamics (Adv. Mater. 13/2024)
Guided Bone Regeneration Application
In article number 2310697, Jisi Zheng, Tiger H. Tao, Duohong Zou, and co‐workers ventured into the realm of bone tissue engineering, addressing a critical challenge in the field: the interplay between membrane thickness and permeability. Inspired by the natural design of spider silk, this research led to the development of a novel silk fibroin membrane that features a unique cross‐thickness wettability gradient. This innovation harmonizes the often conflicting requirements of material transport, mechanical integrity, and barrier functionality in guided bone regeneration.
