• This chapter presents the traditional categories of overview, etiology/pathophysiology, signalment/history, clinical features, key differential diagnosis, diagnostics, and therapeutics of Alsike clover toxicology in equine. Trifolium hybridum (alsike clover) has been implicated as the cause of equine hepatic failure and neurologic impairment but evidence is limited. Postmortem histopathologic lesions are consistently found in the liver and include biliary fibrosis and marked bile duct proliferation. Alsike clover is believed to be less palatable than other forages and horses on pasture may eat less if alternative plants are available.
