  • Pancreatic cancer has a dismal prognosis. Diagnosis is frequently made in patients with advanced disease, and only a small proportion of patients undergo a potentially curative treatment. Together with jaundice, abdominal pain is the most frequent clinical presentation of pancreatic cancer. Management of pain in patients with pancreatic cancer should begin with the appropriate pain assessment in the context of the other physical and psychological symptoms that are frequently present. Weight loss, malnutrition, sarcopenia, and cachexia are among the major clinical signs of pancreatic cancer. Deficiency of micronutrients and antioxidants also has a negative impact on pain, and pain relief may be difficult to achieve in severely malnourished and cachectic patients with pancreatic cancer. The principles of pancreatic cancer pain therapy involve maximizing analgesia while minimizing adverse side effects. To achieve this, pharmacological, interventional (neurolytic treatment), and other therapies can be used.
