• Nowadays companies need to place much greater emphasis on cost/benefit analyses and process optimization in an effort to improve production efficiencies, lower unit cost while meeting increasingly stringent environmental regulations. In this regard, the primary copper industry is no exception. This chapter examines the implementation of different approaches at the Amarillo Copper Refinery to ensure sustainability as a significant copper producer, having initiatives in the recovery of metal products (Bi, Ni, Te) and also H 2 SO 4 , together with other programs aimed at making its operations more sustainable by finding ways to reduce waste solutions and using recycle consumables.
