The use of forensic archaeology, that is the use of archaeological methods in a medico‐legal context, is a relatively new field of expertise in Denmark. The few instances where archaeologists have been used in forensic work, surveying, locating and exhuming dead bodies, are mainly due to the scarcity of crimes. The archaeologists or physical/forensic anthropologists have never been allowed to conduct full excavation of buried human remains associated with modern crime scenes. Archaeologists have also been employed to sieve soil in order to collect evidence such as cartridge casings, fired bullets or other material that could help in identification. Forensic anthropologists in Denmark work closely with both archaeologists and forensic pathologists, and would thus seem to be in a good position to introduce forensic archaeological methods to the forensic community.
