The broad-energy germanium (BEGe) detector, with the ability of background discrimination using pulseshape discrimination, is a competitive candidate for neutrinolessdouble beta decay (0mbb) experiments. In thispaper, we report our measurements of key parameters fordetector modeling in a commercial p-type BEGe detector.Point-like sources are used to investigate energy resolutionand linearity of the detector. A cylindrical volume source isused for efficiency calibration. With an assembled devicefor source positioning and a collimated 133Ba source, thedetector is scanned to check its active volume. Using an241Am point-like source, the dead layer thicknesses ismeasured at about 0.17 mm on the front and 1.18 mm onthe side. The detector characterization is of importance forBEGe detectors to be used in the 0mbb experiments atChina JinPing underground Laboratory (CJPL).
