• When last the anti-oligarchy forces were considered the liberals held the limelight, but, it was suggested, they were losing focus. During the Sino-Japanese War period, as they lost the struggle for Diet supremacy to the oligarchs, they became bedfellows with reactionaries on the Korean issue.
