Siskins are small finches (Fringillidae) related to the euphonias (pp. 344–346). With the exception of Andean Siskin, they are strongly sexually dimorphic: males have a black hood or cap, which females lack; all display bright yellow wing patches. Siskins are quite social, often occurring in large flocks. They eat mainly seeds, thistle, and other plant material, but also some insects. Voices of all species are quite similar, typically thin, metallic whistles or twitters, and are not described in detail.
