• Stravinsky arrived in New York City aboard the Manhattan on 30 September 1939 to begin a series of lectures as the Charles Eliot Norton Professor at Harvard. Within months of his arrival, Carlos Chávez sent a telegram inviting him to conduct the Orquesta Sinfónica de México.
