- Long before his death, Friedrich Kittler had already assumed a distinguished place in the academy: he is considered the visionary and founder—by way of several important books—of media studies, a field that emerged from the border shifts and internal structural changes that have reformed the humanities, particularly in Germany. Kittler’s thought, however, has an appeal, a charisma even, that surpasses this institutional role. Through the translation of his texts, Kittler’s name appears in many academic circles that in no way share the German fascination for media phenomena.
