• Abstract Absolutely Bound Conscience and Curageous Non-Conformism: What Connects Martin Luther King and Martin Luther in Spite of All Their Differences. The article looks at the details about how Martin Luther King made reference to Martin Luther. The author considers the story behind the similarity of the name, King’s study of the reformer as a student, his referral to the „Here I stand. I cannot do otherwise“, and to the nailing of the theses to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg. How contemporary Lutherans in the USA reacted to the civil rights movement is described. In a conclusion differences and similarities are summarized.
